Place of birth

He was born on July 19, 1971, in the village of Belovodsk, Chui region, Kyrgyz SSR. In 1984 the family moved to Ukraine.

Education

He graduated from Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky State Pedagogical University named after Hryhoriy Skovoroda. Candidate of Sciences in Sports and Physical Education. He defended his dissertation on the topic: “Methods for determining the qualities of boxers in the system of multi-stage sports selection.”

In January 2011 he graduated from the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine. He received a master’s degree in “Social Development Management”.

Family

Married. Wife Natalia Klitschko, children – sons Yegor (born in 2000) and Maxim (born in 2005), daughter Elizabeth-Victoria (born in 2002).

Younger brother Wladimir Klitschko was born in 1976, became a world-class athlete, world champion in the WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO.

Sports career

Since childhood, Klitschko Sr. was fond of kickboxing, even became a six-time world champion in kickboxing (four times among professionals and twice among amateurs). In boxing from 14 years. He won the title of world champion among servicemen. In 1995 he won a silver medal at the World Championships.

After a successful career in amateur boxing (95 fights / 80 wins (72 by knockout) / 15 defeats), he made his debut in the professional ring at the same time as his brother Vladimir in November 1996.

The brothers signed a contract with Universum Box-Promotion and came under the care of German coach Fritz Zdunek. Vitaliy won the first 10 matches ahead of schedule in the 2nd round.

Due to injuries in 2005, Vitaliy Klitschko announced the end of his sports career, but in January 2007 he announced his intention to return to professional boxing.

In total, he fought 47 times in the professional ring, won 45 victories (41 by knockout, won four fights by points) and suffered two defeats. The first – as a result of a ruptured ligament, the second – due to the opening of the eyebrows, due to which the fighting was stopped by a doctor.

Policy

During the 2004 Orange Revolution, Vitaliy Klitschko and his brother Volodymyr openly supported presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko, after whose victory Klitschko Sr. became his adviser.

In March 2006, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada and the Kyiv City Council at the same time, leading the Pora-PRP bloc, and also ran for mayor of Kyiv. According to the results of the election, he was able to pass only in the Kyiv City Council, in the election of the mayor of the capital he took second place, losing to Leonid Chernovetsky.

In April 2010, Klitschko led the UDAR party.

In the 2012 parliamentary elections, Klitschko’s UDAR party won 42 seats, and the politician himself headed the UDAR faction in the Verkhovna Rada.

In August 2013, during a meeting with World Boxing Council President Jose Suleiman Klitschko, he announced that he planned to run in the upcoming presidential election.

On February 25, 2014, Klitschko confirmed that he would run in the early presidential elections on May 25 of that year. However, on March 30, at a congress of the UDAR party, he announced that he would support Petro Poroshenko in the presidential election, and that he would run for mayor of Kyiv.

On May 25, 2014, at the early elections of the Kyiv mayor and deputies of the Kyiv City Council, Vitaliy Klitschko was elected mayor of the capital of Ukraine – the city of Kyiv. 56.7% of Kyivites voted for him, and his UDAR party won a majority in the Kyiv City Council.

On June 5, 2014, Klitschko was sworn in as mayor of Kyiv.

On June 25, 2014, President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree appointing Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko head of the Kyiv City State Administration.

In 2014, in the early elections to the Verkhovna Rada, he ran on the lists of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc under №1.

On January 23, 2015, Vitaliy Klitschko was elected Chairman of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, a position held by Yuriy Vilkul.

On September 23, 2015, the Kyiv City Territorial Election Commission registered the current mayor of Kyiv, the head of the Kyiv City State Administration Vitaliy Klitschko, as a candidate for mayor of Kyiv in the October 25, 2015 local elections.

Following the results of elections on October 25, 2015 I passed to new structure of the Kyiv City Council from Petro Poroshenko’s Bloc “Solidarity”. In the 2015 local elections, Vitaliy Klitschko won the second round of the Kyiv mayoral election. 401,880 voters (66.49%) voted for Klitschko.

On December 1, 2015, Klitschko took office as mayor of Kyiv.

On May 30, 2020, Vitaliy Klitschko announced that he was going to run for the third time in the Kyiv mayoral election on October 25, 2020. In the first round of voting in the mayoral election, Vitaliy Klitschko won with a result of 50.52% of the vote.

Financial situation

In the declaration of income for 2019, the mayor of Kyiv indicated an apartment of more than 250 square meters. Klitschko and his family also have the right to use another apartment of 43 square meters, which is registered to his brother Wladimir Klitschko.

Klitschko’s wife has a 700-square-meter house in the village of Lyutyzh, not far from Kyiv. At the same time, she has the right to use the land near this house, which belongs to the local village council.

Klitschko declared a collection of seven precious watches, as well as a marble watch made in the XIX century. The document also refers to his wife’s jewelry. Klitschko also mentioned the Yamaha grand piano in the document.

A motorcycle worth 600,000 hryvnias and a trailer were recorded from Klitschko’s vehicles. His wife recorded two cars Toyota Sequoia 2014 (1.3 million hryvnias at the time of sale) and Land Rover Discovery, which was purchased in 2013 for 640 thousand hryvnias.

Klitschko’s total income for 2019 is a little over a million hryvnias. Of these, 318,599 UAH salary and 697,014 UAH income from the management of funds in “Deutsche Bank”. Here Klitschko also mentioned 1614 UAH “gift in non-monetary form” and 1883 UAH “additional benefit” from the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

According to the declaration, the mayor of Kyiv keeps 67,189 hryvnias and 14 dollars in banks, 24.2 thousand euros in cash and 13.2 thousand dollars in cash. The declaration states the amounts that the mayor lent to third parties. This means 8.2 million euros and about 554 thousand dollars.
