Our hotel turned into an oven: tourists began to flee the resorts due to the hellish heat, despite the loss of money

“Our hotel has turned into an oven,” said foreign tourists who came on vacation to Greece. The unbearable heat forced them to choose – money spent on a trip or health. Vacationers often prefer the latter and run away from resorts, the British newspaper Express reported.

Among such “climate refugees” was a family from Great Britain who came to rest on the popular island of Rhodes this July. 49-year-old Sally Urwin, together with her two teenage sons, got into hellish heat after the flight – the thermometer consistently showed +40 °C. “Toasted” vacationers regularly felt a sense of excessive weakness, malaise, and dizziness. They were forced to decide to cut short their vacation and return to their homeland three days earlier.

“It was terrible. I worked in Texas and all over the world, but it was just stuffy there, – Sally shared her impressions. Exhausted by the hellish heat and the lack of opportunity to have a good time, the family decided never to go to southern European countries in July and August, especially with children.

According to the tourist, the temperature rose above +40 °C, which made it tolerable only in the early morning and late evening hours. “At the time of our departure, it was at least +43 °C. The hotel was completely decorated with artificial marble and resembled a huge furnace. In essence, it has turned into a ghost,” she said.

After sharing her experience online, the traveler faced criticism from internet trolls who mocked her fears, suggesting that she had simply never been abroad before and that the heat was perfectly normal for summer. To which the traveler replied: When we got there, it was hot. I have had many holidays in hot countries, but here it was getting hotter and hotter. We were all slathered in suntan cream. The only way to stay cool is to sit in the water. The children were bored, and we couldn’t do anything. I was a little worried about some of the summer vacationers: they could barely move because of the heat, and some did not leave their rooms outside at all. It was nice to be back in the UK – rainy, wet, and cold, it’s refreshing to be back.”

We will remind you that the anticyclone with the mythical name “Cerberus” in the southern Mediterranean came from Africa. It is accompanied by high pressure and extremely high sea surface temperatures, making it difficult for cooler air to penetrate. The “thermal explosion” recorded in the Sahara will lead to the fact that tourism in Southern Europe will “be covered with a copper basin”. So, by the middle of this week, records of +50 °C are expected on the Italian islands, Sicily and Sardinia, which are extremely popular with tourists.

As Bloomberg reports, the reason for such record temperatures is a “thermal explosion” recorded in the Sahara and spreading to central Europe. According to experts, a heat wave from North Africa is capable of breaking temperature records in many cities. Read the details in the article “Tourism is covered with a copper basin: the heat explosion in the Sahara will fry the resorts with hellish heat at +50°C.”
