Several rivers overflowed their banks, a number of settlements were affected. The greatest damage to the impending water caused the city of Savona on the Ligurian coast.
Schools in the port city of Genoa were closed for the whole day. Rescuers and emergency crews are repairing the damage and helping locals.
The damage from the flood has yet to be calculated.
