Extremely severe winter conditions have been observed in recent days in eastern Turkey and especially in the Kars region, Turkish state television TRT-Haber reported.
The temperature in the district dropped to minus 15 degrees Celsius. Due to heavy snowfalls and blizzards, huge mounds (from one to two meters) were formed in some places.
According to television, more than 50 people were blocked due to snow in various places. With the help of the Turkish Disaster Management and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD), all those in distress were rescued. Among the rescued are three children and a disabled person.
Heavy snowfall is expected to continue in the region in the coming days.
Temperatures in the neighboring areas of Ardahan and Agra are also low for the season, where night temperatures dropped to minus 16 and minus 10 degrees Celsius, respectively.
