Black water in Phuket scares tourists

Karon authorities are actively combating the problem of black water on the beach, taking measures to quickly clean it up, Phuket News reports.

After concerns and worries among tourists about poorly treated wastewater began to gain momentum, the mayor of Karon, Jadet Wicharasorn, began to look into the situation. After checking the water treatment plant, it turned out that the black coloration of the water was caused by sediment in the canal, and not by sewage.

“We are not talking about sewage, but about a channel through which municipal wastewater flows, and some of it naturally flows into the sea. The drainage or natural channel was normal for the tides. Rising sea levels caused the movement of sand and sediments, giving “The water has a dark tint. The wastewater treatment company has confirmed that the water they discharge is clean and of good quality,” explained Mayor Jadet.

Authorities have taken measures to remove the sediment and are planning to build traps to prevent similar situations in the future. They apologized for the concern and promised to quickly resolve the issue, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive image of tourism in the region.
