A maid at the Patong Hotel in Phuket was arrested on suspicion of systematically stealing money from tourists. In total, the girl stole a little more than four thousand dollars from the guests, ScandAsia reports.
The thefts from hotel guests began on December 27, 2023. Tourists from Sweden reported the loss of $700 from their room. On January 6 this year, tourists from Cyprus also became victims of theft. 55 thousand baht ($1,500) was missing from their room.
The police took over the investigation and almost immediately got on the trail of the suspect. The thief turned out to be 27-year-old maid Hla Hla Win, who came to Thailand from Myanmar.
The girl immediately attracted the attention of law enforcement officers with her strange behavior. The police were also alerted to the maid’s attempt to escape from the hotel on January 11.
The woman was detained and confessed to stealing money from three tourists. In total, the amount stolen was about 140 thousand baht (four thousand US dollars). According to her, she spent all the stolen money on buying gold jewelry.
