Former flight attendant Jane has revealed where you should be especially careful when it comes to germs.
The most unhygienic place was not the toilet. It turned out that the trays on the seats are the main sources of microbes:
“They may look clean enough, but the trays in the backs of the seats are big pockets of germs…
Seat back trays are usually not cleaned between landings, especially for short transfers.”
The flight attendant urges people to take antibacterial wipes with them on the plane to protect themselves from any bacteria and dirt since sometimes these parts of the plane are not always cleaned between flights.
A travel expert explained that “deep cleaning is done at night or during scheduled maintenance.”
According to the flight attendant, instead of putting drinks and snacks on trays, the previous passenger could change diapers or sleep on them.
Detailing other areas to look out for, Jane reminds passengers that seat belts can be another source of germs, as they are regularly touched by a wide variety of people.
“Also wipe down the seat buckles and aisle headrests because you never know what fingers might have touched them before you boarded,” she adds.
