In Italy, tourists damaged a valuable statue while taking a selfie

According to The Independent, German tourists visiting an Italian villa in Viju town recently accidentally damaged a valuable statue while trying to take a selfie in a fountain.

The event took place at Villa Alcheo, located in the city of Viju, in northern Italy, in the Lombardy region. A group of 17 tourists from Germany rented this holiday villa. One day they decided to take a picture in the fountain, but in the process, they unintentionally damaged the statue created by the famous sculptor Enrico Butti.

The incident was recorded by CCTV cameras.

The cost of this statue, which is already 150 years old, is estimated at 200,000 euros. Restoration of the sculpture promises to be costly, and, in addition, the bowl of the fountain also suffered as a result of its damage.

The owners of the villa submitted a statement to the police regarding this incident. It is noted that tourists bear full responsibility for what happened since they were forbidden to climb into the fountain.
