Egyptian authorities will install satellite sensors to track sharks in tourist areas

The Egyptian Ministry of the Environment will install special shark monitoring sensors in the Red Sea to keep tourists and locals safe while on the water.

The ministry is currently implementing a program aimed primarily at protecting people from any danger associated with shark attacks by monitoring and tracking the movement of predators in the Red Sea. To do this, Egypt imported 50 US marine life tracking devices,” writes Sky News Arabia.

As noted, the devices have been tested before and have proven their effectiveness, including while tracking sharks. Sensors will be attached to the backs of sharks living in the Red Sea and with the help of a satellite it will be possible to track not only their movement but also changes in behavior.

“Particular attention will be paid to large sharks larger than three meters, as they are usually the ones who tend to attack humans,” writes Sky News Arabia.

On June 8, in Hurghada, a Russian citizen died as a result of a shark attack on Dream Beach. After the tragedy, the authorities of the Red Sea province ordered to close all the beaches of Hurghada for two days. On June 9, a special team caught a shark that attacked a Russian, the predator was taken to the laboratory for examination.
