In Europe, hotel classification criteria and star assignment system have been updated

In Europe, hotel classification criteria and the corresponding point system for assigning stars to hotels have been updated.

The revised system is due to come into force in January 2025.

The Hotelstars Union (HSU) industry standards, the European harmonized hotel classification association, are reviewed every five to six years. The next update took place in April.

By the decision of HSU, the classification catalog for hotels was reduced from 247 to 239 criteria. Some requirements were canceled, and some new ones were added.

For example, due to increased hygiene requirements, recommendations for cleaning mattresses have been added to the catalog to extend their service life. Addange of bed linen andchange  towels is provided only upon the guest’s request. Hotels are allowed to implement a fully automated check-in and check-out system.
