Argentine Cruise Tourism Expects Record Season in Patagonia

Spring and summer are synonymous with cruises arriving in the southern region of Argentina. Large companies offer trips to the shores of Patagonia and Antarctica, and about 700,000 tourists are expected in Argentina next cruise season.

More than 350,000 passengers are expected at the port of Buenos Aires, with at least a dozen cruise ships arriving for the first time. In addition, at least 250,000 passengers are expected in Ushuaia, with 535 confirmed stops; while Puerto Madryn already has 41 moorings and 65,000 intended visitors with several first-time arrivals.

Thus, according to cruise tourism participants, during the next cruise season, almost 700,000 tourists will arrive in various federal ports of Argentina, which account for more than 600 berths.

Transportation Minister Alexis Guerrera said “we are ending the cruise season that has been driven by the pandemic and despite this, we have had a positive recovery process in federal ports thanks to working with various areas of the state that have been able to create incentives and facilitate the arrival of more 200 ships”.

“This coming season, thanks to the bonuses and support that have created certainty for the cruise travel industry, we are normalizing volumes to pre-pandemic levels and expecting exponential growth in arrivals and receiving almost 700,000 domestic and foreign tourists in our federal ports, which means a push for the tourism sector, meaning more jobs, more opportunities and more development for the Argentine provinces,” Guerra said.
