US President Joe Biden will soon issue a decree banning “new investment, trade and financing by Americans” of the two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine, which Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared independent, the White House said, according to Reuters.
The order “will also give US authorities the opportunity to impose sanctions on anyone who decides to act in these regions of Ukraine,” said White House spokeswoman Jen Saki.
The spokeswoman said that additional measures would be taken, adding that they would be separate from the sanctions that the United States and its allies are preparing against Russia in the event of its invasion of Ukraine.
