Heavy rains flooded Japan, evacuating nearly 3 million people

Japanese authorities have ordered the evacuation of about 2.99 million people in the country due to torrential rains, which caused landslides and flooding of rivers, according to TASS, citing NHK.

It should be noted that this recommendation can be applied to a number of areas in the south-western prefectures of Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita and Kagoshima, as well as in the western part of Hiroshima and Shimane. Prolonged rainfall in these regions is expected to continue until the end of Saturday, with rainfall of up to 300 mm per day.

Due to the possibility of damage due to extreme weather conditions, the Prime Minister of Japan Eshihide Suga instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to take the necessary measures to protect the lives of local people, according to BGNES.

According to the Kyodo news agency, a resident of Undzen, Nagasaki Prefecture, who suffered from the landslide, is in a state of cardiac and pulmonary arrest – as those who died in Japan, whose death has not yet been determined by an authorized doctor. In addition, local rescuers have not yet been able to confirm the whereabouts of two people who, according to their information, may have been in the landslide zone.

Earlier it was reported that the order to evacuate due to heavy rains was received by 530 thousand residents of southwestern Japan and 215 thousand people living in the western part of the country.
