Germany is preparing for another lockdown for the New Year holidays

The German authorities will consider the possibility of introducing another restrictive restrictions on the eve of the New Year. This was announced by the Minister of Economy Robert Habek.

The new package of bans, which local media already call a “light lockdown”, sets a limit of 10 people for private meetings. Thus, mass New Year’s holidays are outlawed. However, these rules apply only to coronavirus vaccinated or sick citizens and guests of the country. Unvaccinated people are generally forbidden to attend any events, except those where the circle of communication is limited to close relatives or roommates.

The German government will discuss the introduction of new requirements on Tuesday. It is assumed that if the document is adopted, the restrictions will take effect on December 28 for 10 days.

In addition, according to a copy of the order, which is in Reuters, the authorities in the New Year will be obliged to close nightclubs and discos. However, these rules do not apply to bars, restaurants and cultural institutions.

The Cabinet notes that the consideration of new restrictions by officials was prompted by the growing spread of a new strain of coronavirus. The government fears that the health care system will simply not withstand the influx of infected people after the holidays, so it is necessary to prevent such a situation.
