Turkey cancels HES codes: what does this mean for tourists?

Two years after the start of the pandemic, the Turkish authorities made significant easing of coronavirus restrictions. From March 2, the country decided to stop wearing masks in the open air and the use of HES codes.

With regard to masks, they can now not be worn indoors as long as they provide sufficient ventilation. At the same time, the mask regime is maintained where it is impossible to avoid close contacts between people: in public transport, theaters and cinemas, and airplanes. HES codes are no longer required from Turkish citizens when they visit any institutions and organizations. But this rule does not include tourists.

Check-in at hotels continues upon presentation of HES-codes. This means that tourists will have to receive them by filling out a questionnaire on the website of the Turkish Ministry of Health.

Recall that the HES (Hayat Eve Sığar) application appeared in Turkey to combat the pandemic. Each registered person was assigned a code that allowed them to track the places they visited and take the necessary measures if they themselves became ill with the coronavirus or COVID-19 was detected in one of those with whom they happened to be close.
