The Egyptian resort of Hurghada is overcrowded, prices have soared by 30%

Hotels in Hurghada and other resorts of the Red Sea province record a significant increase in occupancy and, accordingly, a 30% increase in prices. Among the reasons, there is an increase in local tourism and tourists from other Arab countries in connection with the holiday of Kurban Bayram, as well as an increase in the number of foreign tourists, among whom the Germans are in the lead.

According to Egyptian media, hotels in Al Goun, Sahl Hasheesh, Abu Soma Bay, and Makadi Bay ranked first for the highest room rates compared to last year. In Hurghada, prices vary, according to Egyptian data, from 2.2 to 3 thousand Egyptian pounds, i.e. from 3,400 to 4,700 hryvnias at the current exchange rate – we are talking about prices for a double room.

In hotels in the area of Al Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh, and Makadi Bay, the prices are already from 3 to 4 thousand Egyptian pounds, i.e. up to UAH 6.3 thousand for a double room. At popular 5* hotels, the prices are over the top for 7 thousand Egyptian pounds, i.e. 11 thousand hryvnias.

According to the statement of the local media, despite the prices, there is a massive demand from local tourists. At the same time, prices for foreign tourists are lower than for Egyptians, which also contributes to the increase in tourist flows.

In the schedule of flights arriving at Hurghada International Airport on the Red Sea, 100 regular and charter flights from various European airports are recorded on Sunday alone. About 15,000 European tourists arrived with them. German tourists lead them by number.
