Named the worst airports in the world for delays and cancellations

Flight tracking website FlightAware has released statistics on the worst airports in terms of delays and cancellations this summer.

So, among the airports with the highest percentage of flight delays around the world are:

Toronto Lester Pearson Airport: 51.9 percent.
Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport (Montreal): 47.8 percent.
Frankfurt Airport: 44.5 percent.
Lisbon Portela Airport: 43 percent.
London Gatwick Airport: 42 percent.
Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport: 41.6 percent.
Munich Airport: 40.1 percent.
Manchester Airport: 39 percent.

Most of the flight cancellations this summer occurred in China.

According to the site, ongoing travel restrictions and sudden lockdowns have made travel to China very difficult, and a strict containment policy for COVID-19 has kept the country closed to most international travel since the start of the pandemic.

Airports with the highest percentage of canceled flights worldwide include:

Pudong Airport (Shanghai, China): 29.8 percent.
Xi’an Xianyang Airport (China): 15.6 percent.
Beijing Capital Airport (China): 14.7 percent.
Nanjing Lukou Airport (China): 14.4 percent.
Chengdu Tianfu Airport (China): 9.5 percent.
Shenzhen Baoan Airport (China): 9.1 percent.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Indonesia): 8.3 percent.
Wuhan Tianhe Airport (China): 8.2 percent.
Newark Liberty Airport (USA): 6.7 percent.
LaGuardia Airport (USA): 6.7 percent.

Of all the airports in the United States with the highest percentage of arrival delays, a quarter or more of flights were delayed, experts noted, with 38 percent of them in Chicago Midway.

Airports in the European tourist hubs of Frankfurt, London, and Paris also experienced delays between late May and early September.
