Armed men tried to seize Haiti’s international airport

Armed men tried to seize the main international airport in the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. There was a shootout with the police.

Attack on the International Airport. Toussaint Louverture occurred hours after authorities declared a curfew in Port-au-Prince. Fortunately, no one was hurt: the airport was closed, there were no passengers, and the employees managed to leave the air harbor; their evacuation was covered by an armored truck with police officers firing back.

This attack on the airport is called the largest in the history of Haiti.

Earlier it was reported that the Haitian government declared a state of emergency in Port-au-Prince and imposed a curfew. The measures were introduced to combat gangster groups that paralyzed life in Port-au-Prince: they attacked the main local prison and released thousands of prisoners.
