In Jerusalem, a camel ran up to a tour group and bit a tourist

A Canadian tourist came to Jerusalem for an excursion and was hospitalized due to a camel bite. The Israeli newspaper Times of Israel reported on the incident.

The accident happened on Friday in the Old Town on Oleonska Gora. The animal ran up to a group of tourists and bit the leg of a 31-year-old woman. Medics were dispatched to the scene and provided first aid to the victims. After that, the traveler was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem for further treatment. There, doctors classified her injuries as pulmonary.

Last year, there was a tragic incident involving a camel: a 65-year-old man died when his car collided with a camel on Route 358 between the city of Lakia and the settlement of Lahav in southern Israel. Back in 2018, Israeli authorities passed a law requiring camels to be tagged with subcutaneous digital chips similar to those used for dogs. According to the terms, animal owners are criminally liable if their camels are involved in traffic accidents. The law promotes safety for both tourists and locals on Israel’s roads.
