As Putin’s armed forces failed in the first wave of military missions, Moscow refocused its efforts on capturing both the east and south coasts of Ukraine.
However, as in the first months of the invasion, Russian troops face fierce Ukrainian opposition from strong Kyiv armies.
Some analysts have speculated that Putin may be in a position where he could declare some form of victory on May 9. But with less than two weeks left before the Victory Day parade, it looks less likely.
