The first case of monkeypox detected in Switzerland

The first case of monkeypox in Switzerland was found in a resident of the canton of Bern who contracted the virus abroad, the cantonal health authorities said, citing AFP.

Contact with an infected person is controlled to avoid spreading the disease. The infected person underwent outpatient treatment and was isolated at home. All persons who were in close contact with him were notified.

The first suspicion of monkeypox in Switzerland was signaled yesterday. This afternoon, laboratory tests confirmed the suspicions, BTA reports.

A case of monkeypox virus infection has also been reported in New York City, US health officials said. The patient with a positive test result is isolated until final confirmation from the federal epidemiological authorities.

Tests for another suspected contagious were negative.
