Scientists have named 6 fruits and vegetables that reduce the risk of stroke

Strokes are one of the most insidious killers in the world. However, some of them can be prevented. A special help in the prevention of dangerous diseases is a special diet. Researchers from the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands, after conducting a study, named 6 fruits and vegetables that significantly reduce the risk of stroke.

According to experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world. At the same time, more than 400,000 strokes are registered in Ukraine every year.

According to research, white fruits and vegetables are the most useful for preventing death from stroke. Their effectiveness is to halve the death rate. Researchers at the University of Wageningen surveyed 20,000 adults, with an average age of 41, and found out how many of the 178 foods they normally consumed. At the beginning of the study, participants had no cardiovascular disease, but in 10 years there were 233 strokes.

According to the authors, the green, orange, yellow, red, and purple fruits showed no association with whether participants suffered a potentially fatal stroke. However, increasing the consumption of fruits and vegetables with white flesh for every 25 grams per day was associated with a 9% reduction in the risk of stroke.

Those who ate the most white fruits and vegetables from the entire group were 52% less likely to have a stroke than those who ate the least.

White fruits and vegetables include:

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Bananas
  • Cauliflower
  • Chicory
  • Cucumber

In addition, this list includes mushrooms, turnips and white peaches.

According to Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association, the majority of white fruits and vegetables (55 percent) were apples and pears.

These foods are a good source of fiber – the most important nutrient associated with weight loss and the prevention of cancer and diabetes. But they are also rich in catechins, a plant compound that “can help lower blood pressure, improve blood vessel health and prevent blood clots,” according to Harvard Health.

“It can be helpful to eat plenty of white fruits and vegetables to prevent stroke. For example, eating one apple a day is an easy way to increase your intake of white fruits and vegetables, ”said lead author Dr. Linda Oud Grip.

However, researchers have warned that those who eat more white fruits and vegetables may simply lead healthier lives, which may be why they suffer less from strokes, such as smoking or drinking less.

And although other colored fruits have shown no benefit in this study, they are vital for preventing other important diseases. For example, orange and yellow foods are good for the nervous system, while red foods are good for the heart. However, many experts say that the best way to stay healthy is to eat a rainbow, mixing colors on your plate every day.
