A hotel employee urged tourists not to be afraid to take away food from buffets in hotels

In most hotels, you can easily take food from the buffet table to snack on later, assured one of the former employees of the hotel and a lover of travel. In an interview with The Sun portal, she shared her thoughts about the fact that guests can not worry and take food with them outside.

“I’m surprised that more and more people just don’t admit to taking pastries or fruit with them. I am sure that we do all this, – noted the employee and added that most hotels have nothing against this practice, especially considering the unacceptable behavior of some vacationers. “Eating a bagel for brunch is hardly the same as trashing your room or jumping off a balcony into a swimming pool.”

She also expressed surprise at the recommendation of hotel and etiquette experts, who suggest that if you take some food, the staff will immediately call the police, because will accept what happened as theft. “I’m almost sure that the police have more important things to do than to monitor how many guests take food from the breakfast,” said the expert.

In addition, the interlocutor emphasized that in most hotels the staff tries to please the guests by delivering food and cleaning the tables. According to her, the staff does not want guests to ask unpleasant questions that could lead to problems with the hotel management: “I think this is one of those situations where it is better to apologize than to ask permission.”

The employee then shared her experience of working at the hotel and mentioned that often most of the cooked food ends up being thrown into the trash, and she was always sorry to see this, so it is better to take a small amount of breakfast food that is guaranteed to be eaten than to put a lot of food on a plate and leave half uneaten.

“I have three boys, but sometimes I feel like I’m raising hobbits, not children,” the specialist shared, meaning that on vacation they constantly ask for something to eat already half an hour after breakfast, so having a small snack on hand – it is a necessity for a comfortable rest. However, she noted that in large chain hotels, where there are many guests, it may be worth limiting the desire to take additional products from the buffet table: there are a lot of tourists there, but in small family hotels, the situation is different – the staff is usually more tolerant and invites police officers to lunch or dinner. if there is a lot of food left untouched by the guests.

“Our favorite place to stay lately has been a youth hotel in Berlin, where the morning we left, the buffet was open almost until noon. It meant the boys could have a snack and come back for extra while I packed up in the room,” said a hotel employee.

She added that while some hotels may make sure that guests don’t eat too much, they tend to spoil their guests’ vacations because of it. “Life is too short to worry about who secretly carried a bun in a bag,” the interlocutor concluded.
