EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josef Borel today demanded that Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately and unconditionally end the war in Ukraine.
The EU strongly condemns the atrocities reportedly committed by Russian military forces in captured and then liberated Ukrainian cities, he added in a statement to Bucha News.
According to him, the picture with numerous casualties among the civilian population, as well as the destruction of civilian infrastructure, show the true face of the brutal war that Russia is waging against Ukraine and Ukrainians. According to Borel, the massacre in Bucha and other Ukrainian cities will be included in the list of atrocities committed on European soil.
The High Representative added that the Russian authorities were responsible for these atrocities committed while they were in control of those areas. According to the BTA, those responsible for war crimes and other serious violations, as well as responsible government officials and military leaders, will be brought to justice.
The EU supports all measures to hold Russian armed forces accountable for violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in Ukraine, the statement said.
We fully support the prosecution investigation of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the work of the Commission of Inquiry of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. According to Borel, the EU is helping Ukraine’s prosecutor general and civil society collect and store evidence of war crimes.
He said that the EU will urgently continue to work on the introduction of additional sanctions against Russia.
