Millions of people along Florida’s east coast are bracing for Subtropical Atlantic Storm Nicole, which will pass through the area in the next two days, Reuters reported.
With winds of up to 80 km/h, Nicole is currently located about 615 km northwest of the Bahamas and moving west toward Florida, the US National Hurricane Center said today. The storm was moving at a speed of about 13 km/h towards Florida, where 18 million people were warned of impending danger.
Six weeks ago, the region experienced only downpours and strong winds, left on the edge of Hurricane Ian in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, which killed 140 people and caused $60 billion in damage.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis yesterday declared a state of emergency in 34 counties along the state’s Atlantic coast. Forecasts show that the center of Nicole will reach the northwestern tip of the Bahamas and pass near or over the archipelago tomorrow before reaching the coast of Florida later that day, BTA said.
