Joe Biden spoke of a “new world order” during a meeting of business leaders at the White House as he discussed various global issues. This led many people to think about the conspiracy theory associated with the idea of a new world order, according to Vice.
“Now is the time when everything is changing,” Biden said on Monday in response to a question about how the United States is responding to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“There will be a new world order, and we must lead it,” Joe Biden said.
The US President also referred to the “liberal world order”, which he said helped the world avoid the global conflicts of 1946.
The New World Order conspiracy theory, which claims that world events are being controlled behind the scenes by a small group of people seeking to create a world government and its totalitarian rule, has been around for decades. It’s a universal story that can be made up of any alleged bad actor who momentarily gained popularity, depending on which conspiracy theorist you’re talking to.
Some will say that the New World Order is made up of the Illuminati. Others may speak of Freemasons, and some of them may speak of Communists. Anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists have placed Jews at the center of this conspiracy. These days, proponents of this conspiracy theory often speak of a mixture of “liberal” villains such as billionaire philanthropist George Soros (often the subject of anti-Semitic conspiracies), the Clinton family, and Bill Gates.
Among conspiracy theorists, “New World Order” refers to dystopian horrors, including depopulation programs through forced sterilization, a secret reptilian ruling class, and satanic “globalists” determined to usher in the apocalypse.
However, the New World Order is also used in the context of geopolitics: the phrase was popularized by world leaders after World War I and later World War II to describe collective governance systems such as the failed League of Nations, NATO and the UN that were created, to help nations avoid bloody conflicts in the future.
Recently, the phrase has been used again by pundits and lawmakers to describe the uncertainty caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has shaken Europe.
Every time this phrase is used in a “legitimate” context, conspiracy theorists go crazy. The latest iteration of the theory, which is circulating in the QAnon community, claims that Ukraine and its President Volodymyr Zelensky are puppets in a globalist scheme and that Western leaders are only concerned with preventing a Russian invasion because they protect secret “bio-labs” there. The theory has been used to discredit Western support for Ukraine.
Conspiracy theorists and far-right figures have criticized Biden’s remarks during a business meeting, alleging that the fallible president unknowingly made a hand signal. The New World Order began to be tweeted. “Yes, President Biden has been coded. Yes, he will lead the New World Order. Yes, you bend the knee. “Bow to America to Biden,” one person tweeted. “I believe with all my heart that Joe Biden was appointed by the globalists, including Babylon, to usher in a New World Order,” wrote another.
One particularly prominent proponent of the New World Order conspiracy is Alex Jones of Infowars. On Monday night, Infowars ran the headline “Internet Gone Crazy Because Biden Said A New World Order Is Coming.”
Far-right Gateway Pundit posted a headline that said, “Biden publicly said what he should have kept to himself.”
Far-right activist Laura Lumer joined the discussion. “Remember when the Left called us all conspiracy theorists for saying that the US government was committed to globalist forces to establish a New World Order?” Lumer wrote on Telegram.
