The Nomad Capitalist portal named the 10 most “influential” passports in the world.
Some passports make it easier to get through border control, others may require you to go through excruciatingly long visa procedures before each trip. As the economy fluctuates and political allies restructure, the strength of the national passport also changes.
To find out which passports offer their holders the most privileges, Nomad Capitalist studied visa waiver opportunities in 199 countries by comparing citizen taxes, dual citizenship opportunities, personal freedom and other factors.
This year, the leader of the rating was the passport of the United Arab Emirates. The UAE entered the top 10 for the first time, rising from 35th to first. This is largely due to the recent changes that have taken place in the country. The authorities allowed foreigners to apply for dual citizenship, and also created a “business-friendly” climate, including an enviable tax system and full freedom of movement.
Luxembourg fell to second position compared to last year. Despite this, the tiny but prosperous EU member state offers its citizens a high level of freedom. In addition, the country has facilitated the naturalization process for emigrants living there.
Switzerland is in third place. The citizens of this country are provided with a high degree of freedom and privacy. This year, the state has risen from fifth position to third.
