The best waiter: an unusual marathon took place in France

Parisian waiters have proven they can remember eight people’s orders without taking notes. They can very quickly bring breakfast and drinks at one time and still find time for a smoke break. All this thanks to the marathon in Paris, where the garçons showed their talents, CNN reports.

Paris has revived the Course des Cafés, a marathon in which waiters are asked to walk a 2-kilometer route with trays loaded with a croissant, a glass of water, and a small cup of coffee.

It is noted that only fast walking is allowed, not running. Points are awarded for speed, but at the finish, the judges can take them away if liquids spill on the tray.

According to media reports, 200 city cafe waiters took to the center of Paris in classic black and white uniforms. They started at the city hall, then headed to the Pompidou and walked through the narrow streets of the Marais. This is the first such marathon in 13 years, during which it was not held due to lack of funding.

The decision to hold the race in 2024 was made to showcase cafe culture to the world ahead of the Summer Olympics. It is known that Pauline Van Wiemersch from Café le Petit Pont and Sami Lamrousse from La Contrescarpe finished first. They received an invitation to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
