Student flies to university in Vancouver by plane due to expensive rent

Tim Chen is a final-year student at the University of Vancouver. Previously, the student rented housing in the city, but due to sharply rising prices, he was forced to go home. Now Chen flies twice a week to study, and the rest of the days he lives with his parents.

Chen said housing prices in Vancouver have doubled in price, with rent reaching $2,500 a month. This amount turned out to be unaffordable for the student, so he decided to move home. From now on, he flies from Calgary to Vancouver twice a week for three-hour flights.

A round trip costs him $150, and he spends $1,200 a month on a plane.

“The flight takes just over an hour — the same as taking a bus,” Tim said.

The guy plans to fly for couples until the end of his studies. Note that Vancouver leads the list of cities with the most expensive housing rentals. The fact is that there are almost no apartments or houses on the market intended for these purposes. Therefore, students or visitors are forced to take extreme measures.
