Spanish authorities intend to protect themselves from British alcoholics

In the west of Spain in the Balearic Islands, in particular, in Mallorca, they want to cope with the influx of tourists from Britain, who are attracted by cheap alcohol.

Some statistics show that there are over 600,000 tourists per 1.2 million residents during the season, the vast majority of whom come to the islands only for cheap strong drinks.

It is known that fines for foreign alcoholics were introduced on the islands, but they did not prove effective.

The authorities of the islands are calling on the Spanish government to give them money to buy up all cheap hotels (1-3 stars), as well as various cheap night bars and eateries. In place of these establishments, it is necessary to build a good hotel and decent establishments, which will be visited not by alcoholics from Britain, but by solvent tourists from all over the world.

According to the publication, about 40,000 “toxic” establishments will have to be eliminated on the islands. To buy these buildings, at least 10 million euros are needed.

The authorities of the islands also noted that there will be no increase in unemployment due to the conversion of hot places into decent establishments.
