Among the most famous cities on the planet, the traveler visited one of them and shared his disappointment because of the crowds of visitors and numerous tourist groups, which were six times more than the locals. He published his review on the Reddit platform, calling this city “medieval Disneyland” – an analogy for overcrowding and a tourist atmosphere.
Prague, one of the most popular destinations in Europe, attracts about seven million tourists every year. The main magnet for visitors is the Old Town, which is the historical center of the Czech capital. One of the tourists, Robin Morris, went to this city and shared his impressions on the forum.
“I was in Venice in the summer and Kyoto in April, but nowhere was as crowded as Prague in September. Crowds of tourists everywhere and shops selling low-quality souvenirs. Bad street performances have nothing to do with the atmosphere in the main square of Prague. It looked more like a fairy-tale Disneyland of the Middle Ages than an authentic city. Our visit left a lot to be desired,” the tourist shared his opinion.
Euromonitor data shows that the number of visitors to Prague exceeds the city’s population by six times, although this figure is less than in some other popular European capitals. However, for some tourists, the mass congestion of visitors still affects their experience of the city.
“I think we were a little unlucky as we got to Prague on Easter weekend and everywhere was crowded, especially around the astronomical clock. Even finding restaurants was a problem, and we ended up having lunch in a suspicious place. The city is beautiful, but because of the crowds, I couldn’t enjoy it to the fullest. I wish I could come back for a quieter time of the year,” another Reddit user shared about his experience.
The high season for visiting Prague is usually between June and August when the weather is at its warmest and most European countries have their summer holidays. Despite the calmer December period, winter also attracts visitors because of the Christmas markets. The minimum number of tourists in Prague, as a rule, falls in February, March, and November.
