Ignoring the ban threatens with a fine of 617 Turkish liras. The restriction was caused by mass violations of public order. Bianet reports more details.
According to Istanbul Governor Davut Gul, this is not a new ban, but a reminder of the current law, which is not enforced. He also noted that women have the right to safely spend time in the parks and beaches of the city without fear, even late at night.
By the way, the ban applies to both tourists and local residents. According to it, drinking alcoholic beverages is prohibited in the following places of the city:
- parks and gardens;
- beaches;
- open sea;
- embankments;
- places for picnics and recreation.
The ban does not apply to establishments licensed to sell alcohol.
