The authorities of Madrid, where tourism has already exceeded the previous year’s figures, activated the “black level” of the threat due to the excessive flow of tourists during the holiday season.
As euronews.travel writes, the streets of the Spanish capital may now be blocked due to overcrowding in the city center.
How the restrictions will work
It is reported that the police will monitor the most congested streets from the sky with the help of drones. Once the influx of people reaches its maximum, the streets will be closed – people will be allowed to leave the area, but not enter it.
At the same time, the restrictions will affect not only pedestrians but also transport – both public and private.
Which areas of Madrid may overlap
Although the restrictions apply to the whole of Madrid, the critical points are Preciados and El Carmen streets, Plaza del Selenque, and the stretch of Alcalá Street next to Cibeles and Gran Vía.
It is worth noting that the first restrictions have already started to apply. Yes, at least until December 9 from 18:00 to 21:00, the Sil metro station in the center of Madrid is closed.
