Drunk tourists will be forcibly deported from a Spanish resort

One of the most popular resorts in the Mediterranean is preparing for radical changes. Forced deportation measures are being developed against tourists who have distinguished themselves by antisocial behavior. Such rules are prepared by the authorities of the Balearic Islands in Spain due to the constant revelry of one nationality – British tourists.

Drunk holidaymakers from the UK could face bans on entry to the popular resorts of Majorca and Ibiza. These are primarily Magaluf in Mallorca and San Antonio’s West End in Ibiza, which have long served as a magnet for Western vacationers looking for unbridled fun and nightlife in hot climates, the Mirror reported. However, new laws proposed by the regional government are aimed at stopping such behavior, which is causing concern among residents.

The head of the island’s tourism department, Jaume Bauza, confirmed that travelers who break the rules and cause trouble could be deported and barred from returning. “We strive to make our resorts a place where tourists can enjoy cultural recreation and the beauty of nature, and not be afraid of anti-social behavior,” the official emphasized. It was clarified that the new measures are aimed at limiting alcoholic and immoral behavior. restrictions on the amount of alcohol served during meals in all-inclusive hotels were introduced – the measures did not help to get rid of drunken Britons.

What has already been done?

To reduce the number of drunken tourists in Spanish resorts, the local authorities introduced the following measures:

  1. Penalties for dangerous acts and eviction from hotels. According to the laws of 2020, fines were imposed on vacationers caught jumping from hotel balconies, which in ruble equivalent reached almost 6 million. Also
  2. Restrictions on the amount of alcohol consumed in all-inclusive hotels. Restrictions have been introduced on the amount of alcohol served during meals in hotels with a popular service system.
  3. Punishment for organizers and visitors of illegal alcohol cruises. A company offering illegal alcohol cruises in Magaluf has been fined almost €160,000. The owners were caught red-handed, but no fewer people were willing to go on such tours: some get the vacation they want, and the organizers earn money.
  4. Restrictions on alcohol promotions and offers. Pubs, happy hour, and cheap drink offers from various promotions such as 2 for 1 in Magaluf and West End in San Antonio are prohibited.
  5. Restrictions for party yachts. New licenses for “party yachts” have been stopped, and those who already have licenses are prohibited from boarding and disembarking travelers in certain parts of the islands.

It should be noted that the idea of introducing a blacklist of vacationers who scare others caused controversy and questions about compliance with the laws of the European Union on freedom of movement. Such a reaction is expected. However, despite the criticism, the Balearic government is determined to tackle the problem of hooliganism to restore the resorts’ reputation as quiet and peaceful holiday destinations. “Our decision is an attempt to preserve the unique character of our resorts and ensure safety and comfort for everyone, including residents who deserve a peaceful and pleasant vacation,” the Spanish politician added.
