Chaos reigns in Marmaris: the head of tourism of the Turkish resort province has been fired

The other day, the head of tourism in the Turkish tourist province of Mugla, where the famous resorts of Bodrum, Marmaris, Datca, and Fethiye are located, was fired with a bang. The reason for his resignation was the chaos prevailing in the tourism of the most “European” resort in Turkey. We are talking about Marmaris, which is popular primarily among the British, as well as tourists from the Persian Gulf countries.

As Marmaris Life director Murat Ersan explained, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, who was in a meeting with tourism advisors and provincial cultural tourism leaders, criticized the slow process of connecting municipal facilities to the ministry in Mugla, which Bingel was in charge of.

In his justification, the official said that there are too many facilities in the city, and work is not moving due to a shortage of personnel. However, the minister did not accept such arguments and dismissed the current head of tourism of the Turkish tourist province of Mugla from his post. According to the Turkish mass media, instead of Zakhary Bingel, his deputy Rostock Vyazach was appointed.

Chaos reigns in Marmaris

The start date of the summer season was set for April 1 – by this time, it was expected that the work on the preparation of tourist facilities on the Turquoise Coast would be completed. However, the officials again did not intervene in time. According to Ersan, during the summer season in the resort town of Marmaris, there are serious disturbances, lack of control, and chaos.

“The regional head of culture and tourism was working, but he did not have enough employees. Things progressed slowly. There is no staff in Mugla, the cradle of tourism. In summer, the resort province needs very serious support. There are security issues. Nowadays it is not possible to walk on the roads. Despite the laws, checks are not carried out,” he explained.

According to the expert, tourists who come to Marmaris from the Persian Gulf countries and other destinations terrorize the city with fairy tales. Thousands of motorcyclists ride without helmets and accidents involving motorcycles and ATVs occur every day. Sometimes the police are forced to chase violators because the latter ignore the rules.

In addition, the head of the publication noted that after severe fires in Marmaris, soil erosion occurred and layers of mud formed on the beaches: “Everything was covered with mud and ash. If the ecosystem collapses, Marmaris will become an estuary. In April, the devices for cleaning the bottom were supposed to work, but now these measures have been postponed until September. We need to put things in order as soon as possible.”

Reference: Marmaris is a resort town on the Turkish Riviera, also known as the Turquoise Coast, stretching along the coast in a long strip. The bay is protected by mountains, due to which the sea is always calm and warm.

The resort is famous for its lively beaches and boulevard along the coast, as well as an active nightlife on the bar street, where there are many open-air clubs and concert venues. Nestled in a valley between pine-covered mountains and clear waters, Marmaris is a great place for sailing and diving.

Earlier, DIP wrote that “In Turkey, 300 tourists were evicted from the hotel: Ukrainians and Russians are shocked, the hotel is sealed.”
