Bottles, bags, and tractors: Tourists drown another popular beach in garbage

Mountains of garbage, plastic bottles, and bags – a photo from Kuta Beach, popular among tourists, on the Indonesian island of Bali. Sad Shots published an edition of the Daily Mail.

According to the publication, the sad pictures show an unsightly picture of the “once pristine beach in Bali.”

The photos show how the locals of the island make their way through the mountains of garbage, trying to clean up the once pristine beach. The pictures show plastic bottles, food containers, and abandoned bags that flooded Kuta Beach in the south of the island.

The reason for the pollution of the beach is called the rainy season, which in Indonesia lasts from October to March.

“During this period, the coast is often littered with garbage, while it is briefly washed away by sea waves, and then ocean currents carry it back to the shore. The beaches of Kuta, Seminyak, Legian, and Jimbaran suffer the most from garbage pollution,” the source said.

The publication adds that previously a small group of volunteers volunteered to help clean up the mess along the cluttered east coast of Bali.

“Tractors taking out garbage from the beaches of the island are quite a common occurrence. The problem of pollution is only exacerbated by the lack of a centralized sewage system in the popular resort,” the resource adds.

Scattered debris has become the main topic of debate on social networks among seasoned visitors to the island. Many of them argue that vacationers have led to a deplorable state of the environment.

“If you’re coming to Bali for their beaches, then you’re in the wrong place!” wrote a woman from Canberra.

A surfer from Sydney said Balinese beaches have looked like this for “at least two decades”.

“All the rubbish is dumped in huge piles on the beach in Tuban, from where it is trucked to the landfill. About five tons are taken out every day,” he wrote.

Summer in Bali is now cynically referred to as “garbage season” on some online forums. However, many tourists specify that the local beaches are quite clean at the height of the holiday season: from July to August.
