Extreme heat in the European Mediterranean threatens to destroy not only beach tourism. The drought caused by it led to the fact that the famous SPA resort introduced water restrictions for tourists. As a result, mass cancellations of tours began.
These are Spanish spa resorts located in Malaga, Andalusia. There, tourists began to be advised to close the water tap while brushing their teeth to save water consumption. And in general, the entire region is taking measures to reduce water consumption, which scared off tourists.
If it weren’t for its 2,000-liter water tank these days, the resort would have already been closed, sources say. At the same time, many tourists are not ready to go on such conditions, and hotels have faced a barrage of refusals.
“It remains to be hoped that there will be enough rain next winter,” – state the local hotel owners.
There is no hope for all other projects – the drought has depleted the region’s main reservoir, and alternatives are not foreseen yet. If a warm and dry winter and a hot summer repeat, more than 100,000 people, especially those who work in hotels and other accommodation facilities, risk losing their jobs.
