Horrible accident with Schumacher’s son halts F1 qualifying

Schumacher suffered a horrendous high-speed crash in qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and Lewis Hamilton failed to make it out of the first Q1 session for the first time in five years.

Schumacher, who is in his second season in F1, rebounded off a barrier at the Jeddah circuit after losing control of his Haas car while hitting a curb.

Medics quickly arrived at the scene and took him to an ambulance.

“We heard that Mick was conscious, got out of the car and is currently on his way to the medical center,” his team wrote on Twitter.

In the second quarter, two wheels were blown off the car.

It is reported that the 23-year-old son of German Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher managed to take off his gloves, leaving in an ambulance.

Haas later added that Schumacher looked “in good physical shape” and was talking to his mother.

The crash came at the end of the Q2 session, in which Hamilton, who was eliminated from the first qualifying session for the first time since 2017, did not take part in the big blow.

The seven-time world champion from Mercedes has 103 pole positions to his credit, but, unfortunately, he will start Sunday’s race from the end of the grid.

As Q1 drew to a close, Hamilton dropped to 16th, only ahead of the top 15, but failed to make it out of the relegation zone on his last flying lap.

He dropped out of the first quarter in Brazil five years after the crash, but he last failed to advance to the second quarter only because of his pace at the 2009 British Grand Prix.

Hamilton found it difficult to train with his ‘jumping’ new Mercedes, but his new teammate George Russell appeared to have overcome that problem with a fourth fastest time.
