The American company Maxar has taken new satellite images of the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol. You can see how hard the Russians bombed the factories. The Ukrainian military is constantly on the defensive in this area. Civilians are still hiding in the basement.
Maxar Technologies has published satellite images of Mariupol, partially occupied by the Russians. You can see the factories of Azovstal, where soldiers of the Azov Regiment and civilians have taken shelter. As a result of regular shelling, the plant was almost completely destroyed. The photographs show holes in the roofs of the factory floors after the shelling by the Russians.
NYT journalist Christian Triebert, who shared the photos on Twitter, notes that the first photo shows the general outline of the plant. There are already a lot of damage on the second and third.
Humanitarian disaster in Mariupol
Around 1,000 Mariupol residents are likely still hiding in the vast underground corridors and bunkers at the Azovstal plant. There are also Ukrainian soldiers. About 600 people are injured. The Azov Regiment of the National Guard and the 36th Separate Marine Brigade are defending at the factories. Attempts by the Ukrainian side to evacuate civilians from factories in recent days have not brought any results. The Ukrainian authorities demand that the Russians urgently create a humanitarian corridor from the plant besieged by Russian troops.
Azov’s communique indicated that, in addition to the deaths of numerous soldiers of the aggressor, another 520 of them (who fought with Azov in Mariupol) were injured (3,150 according to unconfirmed reports). It was also reported that the regiment destroyed 49 and damaged 29 Russian tanks, and also eliminated, in particular, 47 armored personnel carriers (23 destroyed, 24 damaged), 60 infantry fighting vehicles (36 destroyed, 24 damaged), one Su-25 fighter and 33 trucks (25 destroyed, 8 damaged).
