Danish public broadcaster TV2 reported on Thursday night that a 25-year-old man had disappeared in Ukraine. He was part of a foreign legion that fought for Ukrainian troops.
According to this information, the Dane was in group of eight soldiers who took part in fights on Tuesday in the city of Nikolaev. Six of them were killed.
Based on the available information, the family has identified the person who probably died, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a correspondence with AFP.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is obliged to maintain confidentiality in personal affairs and cannot provide more detailed information, the agency said.
Shortly after the Russian invasion began, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the creation of a “Foreign Legion” of volunteers to defend Ukraine.
The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, stated that she did not see any legal obstacles to the participation of Danish volunteers.
According to the Ukrainian embassy in Copenhagen, in mid-March, a hundred Danes went to Ukraine to fight against Russian troops.
