The New Zealand government has announced that it will impose new sanctions on Russia in response to atrocities against civilians, according to DPA.
Imports from Russia will be subject to a 35 percent duty. In addition, New Zealand will continue the current bans on exports of industrial products related to Russia’s strategic industries, said Foreign Minister Nanai Mahuta.
She noted that the new sanctions are New Zealand’s greatest economic response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “Photos and reports of atrocities against civilians in Bucha and other parts of Ukraine are disgusting and reprehensible, and New Zealand continues to respond to Putin’s senseless aggression (by Russian President Vladimir),” Mahuta said.
Trade Minister Damien O’Connor has said New Zealand will ban the export of goods such as information and communication equipment and engines. In this way, it “will give a clear signal that New Zealand will not finance or support the Russian military machine,” he said.
