A few days before the start of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, organizers discovered another 32 cases of coronavirus, according to DPA.
Yesterday, after arriving in China, 15 people showed positive results, the organizing committee said today. Another 17 cases of infection have been reported in people who were already in the Olympic “bubble”. Among the infected are nine athletes or members of sports teams. According to new data, the total number of COVID infections detected at the Beijing Winter Games on January 23 has reached 232.
The games are held according to strict rules of coronavirus control. All participants, from athletes to journalists, are completely isolated from the Chinese population. In order to detect infections as soon as possible, each balloon participant must pass a urine test upon arrival in China and on a daily basis.
Anyone with a positive result should be isolated in a special hotel. After two negative tests with a difference of at least 24 hours, they can leave the isolation until the end of the 10-day quarantine period. After the end of the quarantine period, one negative test is enough.
China remains committed to a strict COVID zero-proliferation strategy, whereby even small outbreaks lead to harsh measures. In the last few weeks, the authorities have imposed blockades in several cities with a population of millions.
