Tourist tax introduced in Riga

According to the Delfi.lv portal, a tourist tax has been introduced in Riga since January 1, 2023. Now all hotels will pay 1 euro per night for each tourist over the age of 18.

It is noted that all tourist accommodation facilities will have to pay a fee of 1 euro per night of the guest’s stay, but no more than 10 euros if the tourist stays in the city longer.

The authorities of Riga had planned to introduce such a tax since 2021, but due to a sharp reduction in the number of tourists during the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision was postponed. The proceeds from the tourism collection are planned to be used for “the implementation of projects that support tourism or the development of tourism infrastructure, and contribute to the international recognition of Riga.”
