Egypt wants to ban lonely tourists from staying in a hotel: a scandal broke out

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism is trying to quell a noisy scandal. It began with a lawsuit demanding that women under the age of 40 be allowed to stay alone – that is, to stay alone in hotels. The Egyptian authorities claim that such a ban was never and was not planned before its introduction in practice, especially in resorts.

In particular, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Gada Shalabi has officially denied rumors that the government plans to ban the accommodation of women under the age of 40 in hotels alone. She stressed that women can stay in hotels like any other tourist, they only need to show ID.

“There is no decision or law related to age, nationality or gender, or anything else that would restrict residence at all. On the contrary, we encourage tourism in all its forms and categories, “she said. She also added that the fact of such a lawsuit could be related to the self-government of an individual hotel, but not to the practice approved by the ministry. “All hotels under the Ministry’s responsibility cannot prohibit the accommodation of any private visitors or tourists,” she said.

Earlier, the DIP reported on “Arrest and immediate deportation: in Egypt, tourists were warned about the ban on carrying souvenirs of a certain type.”
