The EU and China will discuss the war in Ukraine on April 1, according to the agenda of a forthcoming online meeting presented by the European side.
The EU is expected to be represented by European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. Beijing is expected to include President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
The participants will discuss the global consequences of the war, the international community’s efforts to support Ukraine and contain the humanitarian crisis caused by Russian aggression, the European Council said in a statement. Environmental and health issues will also be considered.
Ahead of a meeting of the EU’s disinformation monitoring service, China said it was helping to spread Russian propaganda to justify the war. Beijing Foreign Ministry officials and some ambassadors are reportedly sending online messages with Russian disinformation. According to the EU, the behavior of Russian ambassadors around the world has recently intensified in an attempt to impose the Kremlin’s interpretations.
