Egypt, known for its mild winters, is currently experiencing a relatively cold wave with the lowest temperatures in ten years. It is distinguished not only by the readings of thermometers, but also by the long period of cold – almost a month, – explains “Ah Ahram” Professor of Climatology at the University of Zagazig Ali Kotab.
“Egypt has witnessed very cold weather during the day and frost at night for almost a month.” “Previously, the cold wave passed through the country from two days to a week,” the expert explained.

According to Kotaba, unstable weather is associated with climate change, the impact of which is not limited to high temperatures. According to him, Egypt’s climate has been unusual lately, with colder winters and summers than in the Persian Gulf. This year’s winter season is characterized by repeated cold spells, with snow falling in some areas, which is unusual for an African country.
According to the forecast of the Egyptian Meteorological Agency (EMA), from today the country will experience a new wave of cold, with a maximum temperature of 12 to 16 degrees and a minimum of 6 to 9 degrees in Greater Cairo. These are the lowest temperatures in the last decade and 7-8 degrees lower than usual for this time of year, says Kotab.
Former EMA chairman Ahmed Abdel Aal agrees that climate change has begun to affect Egypt, but notes that temperatures are still within normal limits. He says that now the wind is also the cause of the feeling of cold. According to his forecasts, the cold weather will continue until the end of January.
