The disappearance of a British tourist in Australia, recognized as an unsolvable mystery years later

The Australian coroner was unable to determine the exact version of the disappearance of the Belgian tourist, as no trace or body of the man was found. The Guardian writes about it.

New South Wales State Coroner Teresa O’Sullivan said the tourist’s mysterious disappearance was unlikely to be a suicide, as Theo Hayez, 18, had no reason to intentionally die. However, she also did not recognize the version of the accident or murder, since years later no evidence of these hypotheses was found.

The Belgian tourist was reportedly last seen around 23:00 on May 31, 2019, being kicked out of a Cheeky Monkeys bar in Byron Bay. Six days later, the police found out about his disappearance, as the young man did not return to the hostel, and no one could contact him. During a large-scale search, only a hat was found, which is believed to have belonged to a Belgian.
