Bali Governor Wayan Koster proposed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of the country to cancel visas on arrival for tourists from Russia and Ukraine and oblige them to obtain visas according to the standard procedure.
He explained such measures as an increase in the number of crimes and indecent behavior involving Russian and Ukrainian tourists.
“I wrote a letter to the ministries with a request to cancel the visa benefits for Russians and Ukrainians,” Koster was quoted as saying by The Jakarta Post.
The governor said he proposed this after receiving reports and complaints about tourists from the two countries abusing their tourist visas to find work at the popular resort.
It should be noted that just a few days ago, the Indonesia Expat publication reported that the authorities in Bali deported three Russian women from the country for prostitution. They were arrested at a villa in the resort of Seminyak, where the police came on a tip from residents.
As previously reported by DIP, the Bali authorities have also decided to ban foreign tourists from traveling on motorbikes on the island after a series of accidents, including a fatal one, details here. So, in February, the police detained a Russian tourist who was riding a motorcycle while drunk and crashed into a resident, as a result of which he was hospitalized. In January, a tourist from Ukraine and a visitor from Russia died in another traffic accident.
