UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps said he had prevented the operation of a private jet linked to Russian oligarchs.
“We will not stand by and watch how those who have earned millions thanks to the patronage of Vladimir Putin live their lives in peace while innocent blood is shed,” the minister wrote on the social network Twitter.
The Department for Transport said it had issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) stating that the plane was not allowed to take off from London Luton Airport.
The ship will remain at the airport while officials investigate whether it is subject to sanctions banning all Russian-linked aircraft from flying.
The department said that they would not yet disclose the identity of the aircraft. In fact, an investigation has been launched.
