New strains of COVID-19 identified in UAE

Dubai, UAE. New strains of the coronavirus COVID-19, the so-called Alpha, Beta and Delta, have been identified in the United Arab Emirates, said Dr Farida Al Hosani, a spokesperson for the UAE’s health sector.

She noted that the COVID-19 mutations recently discovered in the UAE have already been identified in many countries around the world, and stressed that vaccination is an effective means of alleviating the course of the disease, including in terms of reducing hospitalization times, the need to use mechanical ventilation, as well as lower mortality rates.

The UAE authorities, the health sector official said, have restored the work of the Al Hosn mobile contact tracing application, where the results of PCR tests are recorded and the status of vaccinated users is indicated. For more information, call the toll-free number 8004676.

Dr. Al Hosani said the national vaccination program reached 71% of the population, while urging unvaccinated citizens and residents of the UAE to stop traveling so as not to become infected with new strains.

Travelers, in turn, are advised to avoid crowded places and comply with COVID-19 prevention rules, including social distancing. It is also recommended that you receive a third dose of immunity-boosting vaccine six months after your full vaccination.

In turn, doctors in the UAE urged residents not to worry, but to strengthen precautions and take PCR tests when symptoms of coronavirus appear. New symptoms that the Delta strain can cause include vomiting, loss of appetite, and abdominal pain.

As previously reported, the national vaccination campaign in the UAE has crossed a new milestone – to date, 15 million vaccines have been consumed, which has made the country one of the world leaders in their distribution among the population.

This achievement is especially significant for the UAE in the face of the spread of the new COVID-19 strain – Delta. Against this backdrop, the UAE authorities are successfully coping with timely testing for coronavirus, tracking its spread, as well as treating and managing isolation of those infected, while maintaining restrictions on international travel.

Doctors in the UAE noted that the strains Delta and Delta Plus are of concern to them, because they are much more infectious than their predecessors, increase the risk of hospitalization and endanger the health of young people, including.
